In a world where we no longer depend on what platform the different cell phones use, we will see new applications that give users a unique experience. This scenario was explored in the theme day at the IT University of Copenhagen on IT services that match in Denmark and China.
All of a sudden we will be independent of whether we are working in- or outside, or on the move. We will suddenly see mobile services, which focus on aspects other than ones location, such as the time of day. It becomes suddenly more interesting to focus on what we are doing at that time, e.g. if we go for a run, or whether we are on a treasure hunt in town.
Morten Bekholm from GFK spoke about his vision for mobile services in the future. In his world it is vital to get a picture of how people really act, not how they think they act. Morten's vision for future mobile services is that it will become easier to track people's actual behavior rather than their opinions.
The visions from Endomondo are, according to Christian Birk, to create flexibility for their users. They will make it fun and exciting to do sports. More and more people rely on social services and the most sports most engaged in are ones played alone. Endomondos vision is to combine the two, so the single-person sport becomes a social thing. This means that, the more people who use a particular service, the more fun it will be.
The theme day featured several ideas which will be investigated in the future. One of the ideas was a mobile culture guide that allows users to get information when they stand in front of an attraction. The idea was that you can share the guide with your friends. Another idea was a training guide for the workplace, helping employees, via the community, to live healthier and be more physically active. A third idea was an application that works by using barcodes in shops which gives a picture of what people buy, so that customized offers and services can be created. This should help to create loyal customers in supermarkets and at the same time provide shoppers with unique services, specially tailored to the individual.
