Genie Researchers Globally Interacting in Beijing

On April 14, Søren Debois, John Paulin Hansen and Jørgen Staunstrup participated in a match-making event at the Danish embassy in Beijing. The purpose of the event was to establish contact to Chinese companies who might be interested in participating in the Genie project.
More than 25 companies participated in the event where the overall visions of the project were presented by our Chinese colleague Professor Frank Tung. Furthermore, Associate Professor Huiping Lin gave a very convincing demonstration of a small application, called AirNotes, that was running real-time. The AirNotes application allows the user to leave tags with information at various locations in a building, taking advantage of a tracking system. The idea for this application comes from one of the student projects, where Chinese and Danish students collaborate. Finally, John Paulin Hansen presented experience from the SPOPOS project in Copenhagen Airport and gave inspiring visions for future context aware applications.
The participants were very interested to discuss the project. The next step is now to have a direct dialog with some of the participants and hopefully include them as partners in the project. Hopefully, it can be as stimulating for the research to work with these companies, as it was to work with Copenhagen Airport in the SPOPOS project.
